NEW DELHI, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Thirty Naxals surrendered to government forces in the central Indian state of Chhattisgarh, officials said Thursday.

According to the police, of the 30 Naxals, 20 carried a collective bounty of 92,504 U.S. dollars.

"Thirty Naxals surrendered in the Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh yesterday. They were accused of involvement in various incidents," a police official Jitendra Yadav told the media. "Under the state government's rehabilitation policy, they were provided an incentive amount of 571 U.S. dollars each."

India's federal government has resolved to eradicate Naxalism before the 31st of March 2026.

Currently, Naxals are active across the central and eastern parts of India.

India's former prime minister Manmohan Singh once termed the Naxalite movement as India's "greatest internal security challenge."
