VIENTIANE, Aug. 28 (Xinhua) -- Laos' Ministry of Foreign Affairs held a consultation meeting with Lao officials stationed overseas to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, and international integration, aiming to strengthen the country's economic and financial systems.

The meeting was held here on Wednesday and chaired by Lao Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Maithong Thammavongsa, bringing together ambassadors, diplomats and officials from 41 Lao representative offices worldwide, the local Pasaxon newspaper reported on Thursday.

The meeting aimed to enhance and engage Lao diplomats abroad on key priorities in economic diplomacy, including responses to global economic challenges, Laos' strategy for graduating from the Least Developed Country status, and improvements to the one-stop investment service mechanism.

Discussions focused on enhancing coordination, promoting foreign investment in priority sectors, and ensuring diplomats are well-informed to support Laos' trade, investment, and international integration efforts amid ongoing regional and global shifts.

In his speech, Maithong emphasized the crucial role of economic diplomacy in fostering trade, attracting investment, and deepening Laos' integration into the regional and global economy. He emphasized the importance of well-informed diplomats who can effectively represent Laos' economic priorities abroad.

Participants shared experiences and best practices in promoting trade, tourism, and investment in their respective countries. Discussions focused on enhancing coordination, timely information-sharing, and seizing emerging opportunities for cooperation.

The ministry reiterated that economic diplomacy remains a national priority, requiring stronger collaboration across all sectors to ensure more efficient and impactful implementation in the years ahead.
