PRAGUE, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Czech police said Wednesday they were responding to "a massive gas leak" in the country's southeastern city of Brno.
"Thirty people have been evacuated from six surrounding buildings on Cacovicka Street," police said on social media platform X, adding that the street has been closed and gas engineers were on site to locate the leak.
In an updated post, police later said that evacuated residents have returned to their homes. "The area is now passable for pedestrians. Due to excavation works, the road remains impassable for vehicles."
A day earlier, a similar incident in Pruhonice, a town near Prague, led to the evacuation of about 100 people. ■
