ANKARA/DAMASCUS, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- Türkiye on Tuesday slammed Israel's expanded military attacks in Syria, saying the attacks directly targeted Syria's stability and security efforts and must be ended.
In a statement, Türkiye's Foreign Ministry said that support must be continued for the Syrian interim government to establish peace and tranquillity in the country.
Meanwhile, Omer Celik, spokesperson for Türkiye's ruling Justice and Development Party, also condemned on X Israel's "systematic targeting of Syria's sovereignty and territorial integrity."
Türkiye, a key supporter of the Syrian interim government, has said that it will continue to support the current Syrian leadership in the face of any attempts to derail peace and stability in the war-torn country.
Israeli drone strikes on Tuesday reportedly targeted two separate Syrian military sites in the southern countryside of Damascus, killing at least six soldiers and wounding others, according to the latest reports by private media and a war monitor.
In the first attack, a drone strike hit a Syrian army position near the town of al-Kiswah, southwest of Damascus, killing four soldiers from the 44th Division, including at least one commander, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported.
Four others were wounded, one critically. The strike occurred near the road leading toward the southern Sweida, with Israeli drones reportedly observed in the skies over the area.
Lebanon-based Syrian Sham TV gave a similar account, reporting three deaths and four injuries in the al-Kiswah attack, while Syrian state outlets have yet to confirm the casualty toll.
Later the same day, another Israeli drone strike targeted a military facility in the area of al-Moadamyeh, also southwest of Damascus, killing two more soldiers and wounding several others, Sham TV reported.
Earlier in the day, the monitor reported that an Israeli strike killed a young man when his house was hit in the village of Tarneja in Quneitra province, near the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. It was not immediately clear whether that strike was carried out by a drone or a missile, and the reasons for the targeting remain unknown.
The development comes amid reports of Israeli incursions into southern Syrian areas, which drew condemnation from the Syrian interim authorities. ■
