BANGKOK, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- The Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) launched its certification program on Wednesday, aiming to reinforce tourist confidence by elevating safety and service standards across the country's vital tourism sector.

According to the TAT, the "Trusted Thailand" stamp will serve as a symbol of assurance for international travelers that certified tourism establishments meet strict quality standards, helping visitors make informed decisions.

Speaking at the launch event, Tourism and Sports Vice Minister Jakkaphon Tangsutthitham emphasized the Thai government's focus on security as the foundation of its sustainable tourism policy.

The launch reflected an invitation to all tourism operators, partnered agencies, and stakeholders to work together in advancing Thailand's tourism toward safe, secure, and sustainable growth, Jakkaphon said.

Through the continuous implementation of security measures alongside promotional efforts, the Southeast Asian nation aims to remain a leading destination of choice, particularly for Chinese tourists, who represent its primary source market, he added.

TAT Governor Thapanee Kiatphaibool noted that safety has become a paramount factor for modern travelers, particularly for the growing demographics of free independent travelers, female tourists, and families.

"Tourists from key markets, including China, Japan, and South Korea, expect robust and reliable safety standards and upgrading the entire tourism supply chain, especially in terms of security, is an urgent mission to bolster our international image ahead of the high season," Thapanee said.

The program will initially pilot with hotels and accommodation providers, with applications opening in September, before expanding to other establishments such as restaurants, tourist attractions, recreational venues, and shopping centers, the TAT said in a statement.

The certification will be awarded to businesses that meet four key criteria, encompassing general safety measures, payment security, foreign language communication, and safe and easy accessibility, it said.
