SINGAPORE, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Singapore will launch a pilot scheme on unit pricing at major supermarket chains from Sept. 1, aiming to boost price transparency and help consumers make more informed purchasing decisions.
Over an eight-week period, more than 150 participating outlets will display unit prices for selected grocery categories, including rice, meat, eggs, cooking oils, fruits, and vegetables, the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore and the Consumers Association of Singapore said in a joint statement on Wednesday.
A unit price refers to the cost per unit of measurement, such as "X Singapore dollars per liter," enabling consumers to better compare products across different brands and package sizes.
During the trial, consumers may also be approached by a market survey firm to provide feedback. ■
