KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 27 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's low-cost airline AirAsia X has reported higher profit in the second quarter of 2025, boosted by favorable net foreign exchange gains.

The firm said in a statement on Tuesday that its net profit for the quarter rose sharply to 35.22 million ringgit (9.32 million U.S. dollars) against last year's 4.82 million ringgit.

Its revenue for the quarter, however, fell to 660.8 million ringgit.

As for the first half, the firm's net profit climbed to 85.43 million ringgit. Its revenue for the period also increased to 1.6 billion ringgit.

"For this quarter, ancillary revenue continued to drive the group's margins as we enhanced product personalization and improved value bundling," AirAsia X chief executive officer Benyamin Ismail said.

Combined with disciplined management of cost and operational efficiencies, he expressed the confidence that these efforts position the firm well for the busier quarter of the year.

"With recent favorable jet fuel prices and a stronger Malaysian ringgit, the company prepares to tap on the further tailwinds for the sustainable growth in the year ahead," he added.
