COLOMBO, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Sri Lankan government aims to boost the country's foreign reserves to 15 billion U.S. dollars by 2028, a senior official announced Tuesday.

Mangala Wijesinghe, chairman of the Export Development Board (EDB), told reporters at a press briefing that Sri Lanka's foreign reserves are projected to reach 7.3 billion dollars by the end of this year, with steady increases expected in the coming years.

He said the export revenue had climbed to nearly 10 billion dollars in the first seven months of 2025, adding that strong performances in apparel, tea, coconut-based products, and transport logistics had driven much of the growth compared with the same period last year.

According to figures released by the central bank, Sri Lanka has earned more than 2 billion dollars from tourism in the first seven months of 2025, and workers' remittances exceeded 4.4 billion dollars during the same period.

Meanwhile, official reserve assets increased by one percent to 6.14 billion dollars in July 2025, according to the central bank.
