DAR ES SALAAM, Aug. 26 (Xinhua) -- The Tanzanian government has launched a nationwide initiative to support children living and working on the streets in a bid to protect vulnerable groups and promote inclusive development.

The initiative to support children in street situations (CiSS) was inaugurated by Minister for Community Development, Gender, Women, and Special Groups Dorothy Gwajima in the port city of Dar es Salaam.

The initiative will first be implemented in Dar es Salaam, Dodoma, and Mwanza regions, focusing on providing education, vocational training, and life skills to street-connected children.

"The government is committed to ensuring that no child is left behind. Every child, regardless of background or circumstance, deserves protection, care, and the opportunity to reach their full potential," Gwajima said at the launch on Monday.

She noted that children in street situations remain among the most at-risk populations in Tanzania, facing threats to their safety, health, and education.

According to the minister, the CiSS program will complement ongoing government efforts to rescue, protect, and reintegrate street children into safe environments.
