KABUL, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- Afghan security forces have discovered and dismantled a heroin production factory in Badakhshan province in northern Afghanistan, Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesperson for the provincial police, said Monday.
The factory, located in Argu district, contained a large quantity of opium and various equipments used in heroin production.
The discovery was an important step toward reducing drug production and trafficking in the province, the officer said, adding that efforts to identify and arrest those responsible for operating the facility are ongoing.
The Afghan interim government has continued to strengthen counter-narcotics initiatives and community-based programs to combat drug-related crimes. ■
