GAZA, Aug. 25 (Xinhua) -- At least 15 Palestinians, including four journalists, were killed on Monday in an Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip, Palestinian sources said.
Palestinian security sources told Xinhua that Israeli warplanes targeted the fourth floor of Nasser Hospital with at least one missile, followed by a second attack when medical crews arrived to retrieve the dead and wounded.
Meanwhile, the Hamas-run government media office announced that four journalists were killed in the attack.
The media workers died during a "reporting mission" at the Nasser Medical Complex, said the office in a statement, adding that the casualties have brought the total number of journalists killed by the Israeli army in Gaza to 244 since Oct. 7, 2023.
Meanwhile, a firefighter was killed and seven other personnel of the Civil Defense were injured while attempting to rescue the wounded and recover the dead, said the Civil Defense in Gaza.
There was no immediate comment from the Israeli army on the incidents.
Since Oct. 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a large-scale military campaign in the Gaza Strip, resulting in the deaths of more than 62,000 Palestinians and unprecedented destruction. This followed a surprise attack by Hamas on southern Israel that resulted in 1,200 fatalities. ■
