KABUL, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Police forces have shot dead three armed robbers in northern Afghanistan's Balkh province, the provincial police office said on Friday.
On Thursday afternoon, police attempted to arrest a group of armed robbers in Chahar Bolak district, and the suspects resisted, leading to a shootout and the deaths of three robbers. One suspect escaped.
Police also seized two pieces of handguns from the scene.
The Afghan interim government has vowed to spare no efforts to ensure law and order in the country. ■
