NEW YORK, Aug. 21 (Xinhua) -- The U.S. dollar strengthened in late trading on Thursday.
The dollar index, which measures the greenback against six major peers, added 0.41 percent to 98.619 at 3 p.m. (1900 GMT).
In late New York trading, the euro fell to 1.1610 dollars from 1.1655 dollars in the previous session, and the British pound slipped to 1.3419 dollars from 1.3452 dollars in the previous session.
The U.S. dollar bought 148.35 Japanese yen, higher than 147.27 Japanese yen in the previous session. The U.S. dollar rose to 0.8089 Swiss francs from 0.8040 Swiss francs, and it was up to 1.3899 Canadian dollars from 1.3872 Canadian dollars. The U.S. dollar climbed to 9.6200 Swedish kronor from 9.5903 Swedish kronor. ■
