KABUL, Aug. 22 (Xinhua) -- Police have foiled attempts to smuggle ancient coins abroad via the airport in southern Afghanistan's Kandahar province, reported the state-run Radio and Television of Afghanistan (RTA) on Friday.
The 139 pieces of coins dating back to centuries-old historical dynasties that ruled Afghanistan were recovered from a man who was attempting to take the treasures to the United Arab Emirates via Kandahar airport, the state-owned media outlet added.
RTA added that all the recovered treasures would be shifted to the Kandahar museum after cleansing and repairing.
Previously, in a similar drive, police prevented attempts to smuggle 126 pieces of bronze, copper and silver coins at Kandahar airport in November last year. ■
