MINSK, Aug. 20 (Xinhua) -- Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko affirmed his country's support for Iran's legitimate right to pursue a peaceful nuclear energy program during a press conference on Wednesday, following talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian here.

"We support Iran's legitimate right to the development of peaceful nuclear energy," said Lukashenko. He noted that military confrontations threaten regional and global stability, particularly with attacks on Iran's infrastructure, including nuclear facilities monitored by the International Atomic Energy Agency, calling for wisdom and restraint to prevent a further escalation.

Lukashenko highlighted the importance of cooperation between Belarus and Iran, emphasizing that Belarus views Iran as a significant political and economic partner.

For his part, Pezeshkian thanked Belarus for its supportive stance and called for collective efforts to establish security and stability both regionally and globally.

He also expressed a commitment to continue cooperation within frameworks such as BRICS and the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to promote a multipolar world.
