TASHKENT, Aug. 19 (Xinhua) -- Uzbekistan has completed the construction of its Olympic Village project in the capital city of Tashkent, as announced by the presidential press service on Monday.
"On August 18, President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Olympic Village built in Tashkent," the press service said in a statement.
As noted, the "impressive complex" was built on an area of more than 100 hectares by China CAMC Engineering Co., Ltd.
The statement said that among the main sports facilities of the village, a velodrome meets the requirements of the International Olympic Committee and can also be used to "hold competitions and training sessions in table tennis and fencing". At the center of the complex stands a main stadium, which will accommodate a wide range of athletics competitions.
The Olympic Village also includes other major facilities, such as a water sports palace and complexes for game sports and martial arts.
The press service said that the construction work of the Olympic Village commenced in November 2022.
According to reports, the village will be home to the Ministry of Youth Policy and Sports, sports federations, the State Sports Academy of Uzbekistan, and other agencies. ■
