KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 15 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's population was estimated at 34.2 million in the second quarter of 2025 as compared to 34.1 million for the same period in 2024, according to official data.
The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) said in a statement on Thursday that in order to achieve the 1.1 percent population growth outlined in the 13th Malaysia Plan, Malaysia must increase its population by approximately 400,000 annually.
According to the DOSM, the number of live births recorded a decrease of 7.1 percent to 93,435 births. ■
