NEW YORK, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- U.S. stocks ended higher on Wednesday.
The Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 463.66 points, or 1.04 percent, to 44,922.27. The S&P 500 added 20.82 points, or 0.32 percent, to 6,466.58. The Nasdaq Composite Index increased 31.24 points, or 0.14 percent, to 21,713.14.
Eight of the 11 primary S&P 500 sectors ended in green, with materials and health leading the gainers by adding 1.69 percent and 1.58 percent, respectively. Meanwhile, communication services and consumer staples led the laggards by losing 0.48 percent and 0.44 percent, respectively. ■
