NEW DELHI, Aug. 13 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government has approved four new semiconductor manufacturing units in three different states at an estimated cost of 46 billion Indian rupees (around 525 million U.S. dollars), said an official statement.

The approval was given at a federal cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday. "Six approved semiconductor projects are already in various stages of execution," said the statement.

It further stated that after Tuesday's four more approvals, the total number of approved projects under the India Semiconductor Mission reaches 10, with cumulative investments of around 1.6 trillion Indian rupees (nearly 18.26 billion U.S. dollars) in six states.

The new semiconductor manufacturing units would come up in the states of Punjab, Andhra Pradesh, and Odisha and generate a cumulative employment for 2,034 skilled professionals and many indirect jobs, according to the statement.
