MANILA -- Net foreign direct investment (FDI) into the Philippines rose by 21.3 percent year-on-year in May to 586 million U.S. dollars, the Philippine central bank said on Monday.
The Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) said the increase resulted from the significant expansion in nonresidents' net investments in debt instruments, which rose by 88.3 percent year-on-year, from 227 million dollars to 427 million dollars. (Philippines-BSP-FDI)

BANGKOK -- Thai army spokesperson Winthai Suvaree on Monday clarified regarding the Cambodian Ministry of Defense's earlier accusations that Boonsin Padklang, commander of Thailand's Second Army Region, did not mention the deployment of forces regarding disputed temples, and what was stated does not constitute any attempt at provocation, as Cambodia has claimed.
The clarification came after a Cambodian defense spokesperson accused that the planned military action announced by Boonsin is a violation of a ceasefire reached by both countries. (Thailand-Cambodia-Ties)

KANDAL, Cambodia -- Techo International Airport (TIA), which is the new airport for Phnom Penh, capital of Cambodia, is ready for official operations on Sept. 9 after the construction has been 100 percent completed, a civil aviation chief said on Monday.

KUALA LUMPUR -- Malaysia is examining the role of nuclear energy as a potential option for clean, stable and competitive electricity within the nation's future energy mix, Deputy Prime Minister Fadillah Yusof said on Monday.
