VILNIUS, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Lithuania is planning to join the declaration of the European Semiconductor Coalition, the Economy and Innovation Ministry said on Tuesday.

Economy and Innovation Minister Lukas Savickas said the country has a solid base for technological growth, with over 50 companies in the sector, a laser industry exporting to more than 80 countries, and strong research centers cultivating highly qualified specialists.

The declaration outlines three goals: boosting economic prosperity and competitiveness, strengthening Europe's technological independence, and ensuring resilience in areas such as energy, transport, defense, and artificial intelligence.

Lithuania is also developing ChipsC2-LT, a national competence center to unite its leading scientific and engineering expertise.

Launched in March by nine EU member states including Austria, Belgium, Finland, France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, and the Netherlands, the coalition seeks to reinforce Europe's leadership in semiconductor technology.
