KUALA LUMPUR, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Malaysia's construction sector maintained steady growth of 12.9 percent, with the value of work done reaching 43.9 billion ringgit (10.37 billion U.S. dollars) in the second quarter of 2025, official data showed Monday.

The Department of Statistics Malaysia said in a statement that this growth was driven by continued expansion in the special trade activities and non-residential buildings sub-sectors, which posted substantial double-digit growth of 22.2 percent and 16.2 percent, respectively.

The residential buildings sub-sector also contributed significantly, expanding by 13.9 percent.

Meanwhile, the civil engineering sub-sector maintained a positive trend with a marginal growth of 7.5 percent.

The private sector remained the primary driver of growth in the construction sector, contributing 64.2 percent of the total value.

For the first half of 2025, the sector posted a value of 86.8 billion ringgit, reflecting a 14.7 percent increase compared to the same period in 2024.

This growth was driven by positive performance across all sub-sectors, particularly in special trade activities (28.3 percent) and residential buildings (20 percent). (1 ringgit equals 0.24 U.S. dollar)
