KABUL, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- Around 24,000 foreign tourists visited Afghanistan over the past four years, local media Tolonews reported Monday, citing a government official.
Afghanistan attracts cultural and historical tourists, as well as those who come to explore natural landscapes and scenic areas, said Khubaib Ghufran, spokesperson for the Ministry of Information and Culture.
Foreigners have long viewed Afghanistan as a potential tourism destination due to its historic cities, ancient Buddhist monuments, and mountain landscapes. However, decades of conflict, security concerns, and limited infrastructure have hindered the sector's growth. ■
