SEOUL, Aug. 11 (Xinhua) -- South Korea's exports fell in single digits in the first 10 days of August on fewer business days, customs office data showed Monday.

Exports stood at 14.71 billion U.S. dollars in the Aug, 1-10 period, down 4.3 percent compared to the same period of last year, according to Korea Customs Service.

It was attributed to a fall in working days, which declined by one day in the cited period. The daily average export advanced 9.3 percent to 2.10 billion dollars in the 10-day period.

Semiconductor export mounted 12.0 percent to 3.90 billion dollars, but oil products shipment tumbled 19.4 percent to 1.22 billion dollars.

Exports for ships surged 81.3 percent to 1.12 billion dollars, and automotive shipments expanded 8.5 percent to 950 million dollars.

Exports for steel products, auto parts, computers and home appliances retreated in double figures.

Imports reduced 13.6 percent from a year earlier to 15.88 billion dollars in the first 10 days of August, sending the trade deficit to 1.17 billion dollars.

Imports for crude oil, natural gas and machinery decreased in double digits, and those for semiconductors, cars, oil products and semiconductor equipment slipped in single figures.
