NEW DELHI, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- The Indian government on Friday approved a financial compensation of 300 billion Indian rupees (around 3.42 billion U.S. dollars) to three oil marketing companies delivering cooking gas to consumers across the country.
According to a statement issued by the federal cabinet, the compensation would be paid in 12 tranches to the companies.
The statement said that the international prices of gas remained at high levels in the 2024-25 fiscal year, and the increase in cost was not passed on to consumers of domestic gas, leading to significant losses for the three companies. ■
