SOFIA, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Bulgarian authorities have seized 559 kilograms of marijuana originating from Canada and arrested four suspects, the Interior Ministry announced in a press release on Friday.
The illicit cargo, divided into 810 packets, was intercepted in Sofia during the early hours of Tuesday in a joint police operation with Greece, the ministry said.
According to the statement, the marijuana was concealed in a container on the semi-trailer of a truck, part of a shipment that had arrived from North America at the port of Piraeus, Greece, on July 17.
Three suspects were apprehended while attempting to retrieve the drugs from the container, which was filled with insulation materials. A fourth individual connected to the shipment was identified and detained on Wednesday, the ministry said.
All evidence collected during the operation has been handed over to the competent prosecutor's offices in both Bulgaria and Greece, the ministry added. ■
