BERLIN, Aug. 8 (Xinhua) -- Germany's ruling coalition plans to establish a National Security Council (NSR) within the Federal Chancellery this month, according to German media reports on Thursday.

The new body will integrate security information from domestic, external, economic, and digital domains, convene during crises, and formulate strategies to address emerging threats.

According to reports by local broadcaster ZDF, under the coalition agreement between the Christian Democratic Union (CDU)/Christian Social Union (CSU) and the Social Democratic Party (SPD), the government plans to expand and restructure the existing Federal Security Council into a cross-ministerial decision-making platform - the NSR.

Chaired by the German chancellor, the NSR will include nine key ministers, such as the ministers of finance, foreign affairs, and defense. It will also create 13 new posts, combining functions such as security policy development, strategic planning, and joint situation assessment, thus offering broader strategic coordination and crisis response capabilities.

The NSR is scheduled to be formally established at a Defense Ministry meeting on Aug. 27. At the chancellor's invitation, it will meet regularly to discuss strategic matters as well as specific situations and crises.

In addition to the NSR, the coalition agreement also envisions the creation of a national crisis team within the federal government and a national situation center within the Federal Chancellery, reported the German Press Agency (dpa).
