JOHANNESBURG, Aug. 7 (Xinhua) -- South African President Cyril Ramaphosa had a telephone call with his U.S. counterpart, Donald Trump, on Wednesday regarding trade tariffs, the Presidency said Thursday.
"The two leaders undertook to continue with further engagements, recognizing the various trade negotiations the U.S. is currently involved in," said Vincent Magwenya, spokesperson to Ramaphosa, in a statement. "Respective trade negotiating teams will take forward more detailed discussions."
Pretoria has been engaging with Washington over a looming 30 percent U.S. tariff on South African exports, the highest rate on any sub-Saharan African country. ■
