VIENTIANE, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Authorities in northern Laos' Luang Prabang province are preparing to host a boat racing festival that will highlight the province's rich cultural heritage, while also promoting tourism, boosting the local economy, and increasing income for residents.
This year's festival, running from Aug. 14 to Aug. 24, will also feature a variety of cultural and community activities, including a cultural market, boat races, traditional parades and ceremonies, and temple visits for blessings and good fortune, the Lao Economic Daily reported on Wednesday.
Preparations were underway, with local authorities coordinating city clean-ups, decorating key areas and tourist attractions, inspecting roads, riverbanks, and boating areas, and organizing roadside food stalls. All sectors were being mobilized to ensure peace, safety, and a welcoming atmosphere for visitors.
Each year, the festival attracts both domestic and international tourists to Luang Prabang, helping to preserve the unique local culture and traditions while also stimulating the economy and generating income for the local community.
Known for its cultural heritage and natural beauty, Luang Prabang is also considered the rice and water basin, sustaining local livelihoods. ■
