JERUSALEM, Aug. 5 (Xinhua) -- Israel's military said 110 humanitarian aid packages were airdropped Tuesday over Gaza, where international aid experts say famine is unfolding after nearly 22 months of Israeli military offensive.

The packages, containing food, were airdropped by the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Egypt, Germany, Belgium and France, according to a military statement.

Since the beginning of the airdrop operations in late July, a total of 785 aid packages have been dropped, each reportedly containing hundreds of kilograms of food.

Israel launched its military offensive in Gaza in October 2023 and imposed a total blockade on March 2. The blockade was partially eased in May to allow a private company, backed by Israel and the United States, to open controversial food distribution centers.

Aid convoys and airdrops by Arab and European countries resumed in late July, but United Nations experts warn that it still falls short of the needs of the Strip's population.

According to the Gaza health authorities, dozens of people have died from famine and malnutrition, and Israeli strikes have killed at least 61,020 others.
