NEW YORK, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- McDonald's Corporation on Wednesday released its second-quarter results, with its consolidated revenues growing 5 percent year-over-year to 6.84 billion U.S. dollars, surpassing market expectations.

For the quarter ended June 30, consolidated operating income of the U.S. food retailer giant increased 11 percent to 3.23 billion dollars, while net income grew 11 percent to 2.25 billion dollars.

Global comparable sales increased 3.8 percent, with broad-based growth across all segments. Specifically, sales in the U.S. market grew 2.5 percent, while sales in international operated markets and international developmental licensed markets were up by 4 percent and 5.6 percent, respectively.

"Our 6 percent global systemwide sales growth this quarter is a testament to the power of compelling value, standout marketing, and menu innovation -- proving again that when we stay focused on executing what matters most to our customers, we grow," said McDonald's Chairman and CEO Chris Kempczinski in a statement.
