JAKARTA, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Indonesia has planned to launch the 2025 Indonesia Shopping Festival, a nationwide discount program involving around 400 shopping centers and targeting transactions of up to 23.32 trillion rupiah (around 1.5 billion U.S. dollars).
Dyah Roro Esti, deputy minister of trade, said the program, held from Aug. 14 to Aug. 24, is part of the celebration of the country's Independence Day, commemorated every Aug. 17.
"This program is expected to boost public purchasing power and drive an increase in the number of retail consumers," Roro said on Wednesday.
With discounts of up to 80 percent, Roro believes the program will benefit many people.
Alphonzus Wijaja, chairman of the Indonesian Shopping Center Management Association, said the program could serve as a momentum to boost retail transactions during the low season following the Eid and school holidays.
He added that the various price offers in this program could help middle- and lower-income communities shop more affordably while promoting local products. ■
