BEIJING, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Wednesday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.45 percent to 3,633.99 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 0.64 percent higher at 11,177.78 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at about 1.73 trillion yuan (about 242.83 billion U.S. dollars), up from 1.6 trillion yuan on the previous trading day.
Shares related to robots and military industry led the gains, while stocks related to traditional Chinese medicine and tourism suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 0.66 percent to close at 2,358.95 points Wednesday. ■
