More Bruneians enter job market: minister

BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 6 (Xinhua)-- More Bruneian workforce are entering the local job market, a government minister said on Wednesday.

According to a 2024 workforce study, local workforce participation was 71.3 percent while foreign workforce accounted for 28.7 percent of the total labor market, Haji Ahmaddin Haji Abdul Rahman, the minister of home affairs, said at the legislative council.

Haji Ahmaddin said in the category of professional, managerial, executive and technical, 71,500 Bruneians have filled the positions, compared to 15,900 foreign workers, reflecting positive trends in line with Brunei Vision 2035 aspirations for quality of life.

He said the Ministry of Home Affairs has always supported the government's efforts to attract more foreign investors to Brunei, including introducing a special Long Term Pass policy to foreign nationals involved in the business and investment sectors in the country.

The policy introduced will make Brunei a preferred destination for investors and professionals.
