BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN, Aug. 6 (Xinhua) -- Bruneian students have recorded notable improvement in literacy skills and academic performance in public examinations, a government minister said on Wednesday.
Basic literacy skills among Year 4 students rose from 59 percent in 2008 to 99 percent in 2024, said Hajah Romaizah Haji Mohd Salleh, Brunei's minister of education, at the Legislative Council.
She said performance in major public examinations also improved.
Hajah Romaizah said education plays a crucial role in realizing the three core aspirations of Brunei Vision 2035 to produce educated, highly skilled and successful people.
She also acknowledged challenges in achieving Brunei Vision 2035, including a shortage of trained teachers in early childhood and special education and limited capacity in post-secondary institutions. ■
