ISTANBUL, Aug. 4 (Xinhua) -- Turkish police on Monday seized 179.7 kg of drugs and detained eight suspects in the northwestern border province of Edirne, authorities announced.
The Edirne Customs Enforcement Anti-Smuggling and Intelligence Directorate said it detected 146.7 kg of cannabis and 33.0 kg of cocaine in trucks at the Kapikule border crossing with Bulgaria following X-ray scans.
It did not disclose details about the trucks or the nationalities of the suspects.
The state-run Anadolu Agency reported that legal procedures for the detainees are ongoing.
Türkiye, located at the crossroads of Asia and Europe, remains a key transit route in international drug trafficking. Turkish security forces regularly conduct operations to combat those crimes. ■
