OTTAWA, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Canada's real gross domestic product (GDP) dipped 0.1 percent in May for the second consecutive month, Statistics Canada said Thursday.

Goods-producing industries edged down in May, driven primarily by a contraction in the mining, quarrying and oil and gas extraction sector, while the manufacturing sector expanded in the month, said the national statistical agency.

According to the agency, services-producing industries were essentially unchanged, as real estate, rental and leasing, and transportation and warehousing posted increases while retail trade and public administration contracted.

Advance information indicates that real GDP is estimated to rise 0.1 percent in June, as gains in retail and wholesale trade were partially offset by a decline in manufacturing, said Statistics Canada.
