SINGAPORE, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Singapore's services sector anticipates a modest improvement in business conditions for the second half of 2025, according to the Singapore Department of Statistics on Thursday.

Based on a business expectations survey conducted from June to July, a weighted 17 percent of firms expressed optimism about the upcoming period, while 15 percent projected weaker conditions.

Positive sentiment is notable in the accommodation and retail trade industries, where hoteliers and retailers are buoyed by anticipated demand from upcoming concerts, major sporting events, and the year-end festive season.

Similarly, the recreational, community, and personal services sector is optimistic about the months ahead. In particular, healthcare providers and childcare services firms expect steady demand to continue.

In contrast, the transportation and storage industry foresees more challenging conditions, largely driven by the water transport segment. Companies in this area remain cautious due to ongoing geopolitical uncertainties and expect softer demand.

Meanwhile, the finance and insurance sector maintains a pessimistic outlook. Banks are adopting a cautious stance amid an uncertain economic environment, marked by weakened consumer and business confidence stemming from U.S. trade policies and other factors.
