ISLAMABAD, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Pakistan's federal cabinet has approved the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy 2025 to accelerate digital transformation, boost innovation, and enhance economic productivity, according to the Prime Minister's Office.

The policy, approved at a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, aims to build a national AI ecosystem by expanding access to AI tools, improving public services, and creating employment and entrepreneurship opportunities.

Speaking at the meeting, Sharif said AI could significantly transform Pakistan's economy and delivery systems. "Our youth are Pakistan's greatest asset, and equipping them with AI skills is a national priority," he said.

Under the policy, the government aims to train 1 million AI professionals by 2030, develop 50,000 AI-powered civic projects, and produce 1,000 local AI solutions over a five-year period. It also provides annual 3,000 scholarships, supports 1,000 research initiatives, and ensures inclusive access for women and people with disabilities.

The policy calls for stronger cybersecurity and data protection, international cooperation, and alignment with global AI standards.

An AI Council will oversee its implementation through a national action plan.
