BAGHDAD, July 28 (Xinhua) -- An unidentified explosive-laden drone crashed on Monday in Erbil province in the semi-autonomous Kurdistan region, northern Iraq, local authorities said.
The crash occurred at 5:50 a.m. local time (0250 GMT) near the town of Khabat west of the namesake provincial capital Erbil, without causing any casualties, the regional Directorate General of Counter Terrorism said in a brief statement.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the incident.
Also on Monday, a joint security committee, led by Iraqi National Security Advisor Qasim al-Araji and tasked with investigating the recent drone attacks on the Kurdistan region, held a meeting in Erbil with regional government officials, during which they reviewed the nature of and shared intelligence related to the attacks, according to a statement by al-Araji posted on his official Facebook page.
Al-Araji reiterated in the statement that the security of the Kurdistan region is an integral part of Iraq's security.
The Kurdistan region has witnessed dozens of drone attacks targeting various areas throughout July, including oil fields operated by foreign companies. The Kurdish regional government often blames pro-Iranian militias for the strikes. ■
