RAMALLAH, July 28 (Xinhua) -- A young Palestinian man was killed on Monday evening by the Israeli forces at the northern entrance to the city of Hebron, southern West Bank, the Palestinian official news agency WAFA reported.
The forces fired live bullets directly at the man, leaving him bleeding and preventing ambulance crews from reaching him, WAFA reported, adding that the Palestinian Health Ministry later identified the dead as 27-year-old Muhammad Samer Suleiman Al-Jamal.
Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said in a statement that a "terrorist" hurled a brick toward IDF soldiers during an operational activity in Hebron.
"The soldiers fired toward the terrorist in order to remove the threat. The terrorist was neutralized, and no IDF injuries were reported," it added.
Tensions have been rising in the West Bank since Oct. 7, 2023, as Israeli forces intensified their operations in the territory. A UN report showed that 159 Palestinians were killed by Israeli forces in the West Bank between Jan. 1 and July 21 this year. ■
