KABUL, July 28 (Xinhua) -- The Afghan police have arrested 26 individuals in connection with armed clashes over land in northern Afghanistan's Balkh province, the Ministry of Interior Affairs announced on Sunday evening.
The incident occurred in Qarghachli region of Dawlatabad district, where a violent dispute over land ownership escalated into a firefight. Security forces responded swiftly to the scene and detained 26 suspects, said the ministry.
Police also recovered five AK-47 assault rifles from those arrested. The clashes left several individuals wounded, though the exact number and condition of the injured have not yet been disclosed, it added.
Five people were killed and 11 others injured following clashes that broke out between two families over a land dispute in northern Baghlan province a couple of days ago. ■
