SEOUL, July 25 (Xinhua) -- The number of beef cattle, pigs and chicken raised in South Korea was down in the second quarter, with the number of ducks growing, statistical office data showed Friday.
Domestic farms bred 3,405,000 beef cattle during the April-June quarter, down 5.8 percent compared to the same quarter of last year, according to Statistics Korea.
The number of milk cows reared in the country shrank 1.9 percent to 371,000, and the figure for pigs fell 1.5 percent to 10,896,000.
The readings for layer and broiler chickens slid in single digits to 77,724,000 and 109,763,000 each, but the number of ducks increased 9.5 percent to 10,443,000 in the cited quarter. ■
