KIGALI, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Rwandan President Paul Kagame appointed Justin Nsengiyumva as the new prime minister on Wednesday, paving the way for the formation of a new cabinet.

Nsengiyumva, who served as deputy governor of the National Bank of Rwanda, replaced Edouard Ngirente, who had been prime minister since 2017 and was sacked Wednesday, according to a statement released by the office of the government's spokesperson.

In a post on X, Nsengiyumva thanked the president for the trust and confidence in him, pledging to serve the country with humility and dedication.

"I fully embrace the responsibility entrusted to me and remain committed to advancing our national priorities with integrity and purpose. I will give all I have in me to help you (president) achieve your great vision for this country," he said.

According to Rwanda's constitution, the appointment of a new prime minister paves the way for the formation of a new cabinet within 15 days.
