YANGON, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Three people were reported missing after a motorboat capsized in a river in Yangon, Myanmar, an official from a local rescue organization said on Thursday.

"This morning, three members of our rescue team went to the scene and conducted the operation in coordination with other organizations," an official from Lin Latt Rescue Organization told Xinhua on Thursday.

The motorboat was operating between Botahtaung jetty in Botahtaung township and Thamada beach in Dala township of Yangon region, when the accident occurred at around 7 a.m. local time on Thursday, the official said.

As it is the rainy season, strong winds and waves in the river caused the boat to capsize, the official said, adding that it is difficult to search for the missing people due to the rough conditions.

The boat was carrying 11 people at the time of the accident, and eight of them were rescued, the official said.
