BEIJING, July 24 (Xinhua) -- Chinese stocks closed higher on Thursday, with the benchmark Shanghai Composite Index up 0.65 percent to 3,605.73 points.
The Shenzhen Component Index closed 1.21 percent higher at 11,193.06 points.
The combined turnover of these two indices stood at over 1.84 trillion yuan (about 257.76 billion U.S. dollars), down from 1.86 trillion yuan the previous trading day.
Stocks related to Hainan Free Trade Port, rare-earth permanent magnet and lithium mineral led the gains, while stocks related to precious metal and banks suffered major losses.
The ChiNext Index, tracking China's Nasdaq-style board of growth enterprises, gained 1.5 percent to close at 2,345.37 points on Thursday. ■
