HANOI, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Wipha, the sixth typhoon of this year, has caused severe flooding in central Vietnam, posing a high risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas, local daily newspaper Nhan Dan (People) reported Wednesday.
One death and one injury were reported in Nghe An province due to flooding, where water levels in several residential areas reached depths of 1 to 2 meters, according to the report.
Meanwhile, Wipha triggered landslides at eight locations in Thanh Hoa province, with more than 20,000 cubic meters of earth and rock displaced.
The storm also blew the roofs off seven houses, submerged over 8,000 hectares of rice fields, and caused widespread damage to agricultural and property across the province, the report added.
Wipha had weakened into a tropical depression and moved west-southwest by early Wednesday. ■
