MEXICO CITY, July 22 (Xinhua) -- Mexico is working to secure the immediate repatriation of 14 Mexican nationals held at a U.S. immigration detention center, President Claudia Sheinbaum said Tuesday.

"So far, 14 Mexicans have been detained, and every effort is being made to ensure their immediate repatriation," the president said during her daily press briefing.

The detention center, known as "Alligator Alcatraz," in the Everglades, the U.S. state of Florida, has made headlines, she said.

Diplomatic notes have been sent "so that any Mexicans are deported immediately and do not have to spend time at this center," she added.

With regard to allegations that migrants detained during raids ordered by U.S. President Donald Trump's administration are mistreated at the detention center, she said consulate officials are reviewing whether the detainees' human rights have been violated.
