PHNOM PENH, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Cambodia has arrested and charged a gang of six Malaysian men with an attempt to smuggle nearly 62 kg of dry cannabis to London, said a Phnom Penh Municipal Court's press release.
The accused, aged between 28 and 71 years old, were arrested at the Phnom Penh International Airport's departure terminal by anti-drug and customs police, said the press release dated Tuesday and issued to the media on Wednesday.
A total of 61.8 kg of dry cannabis hidden in four suitcases was seized from the suspects' possession as they were attempting to smuggle it to London.
They were "charged with transporting narcotic substance unlawfully" under Article 40 of the Law on Drug Control, the press release said.
Under the charge, they could face imprisonment from 20 to 30 years or whole life for trafficking dry cannabis with a quantity of more than 60 kg. ■
