KABUL, July 22 (Xinhua) -- One gold miner has been confirmed dead as a clash erupted over a gold mine in northern Afghanistan's Badakhshan province, provincial police spokesman Ehsanullah Kamgar said Monday evening.
The clash flared up between owners of the goldmine and miners in Awaz village of Shahr-i-Bazarg district on Tuesday and claimed one life, the official added without providing more details.
A handful of private companies have been engaged in mining extractions, including gold mines in the northern Badakhshan and neighboring Takhar province, over the past couple of years. However, clashes and natural disasters have also claimed the lives of miners. ■
